You Are a Powerhouse. So Why Do You Feel So Flat?
You are made of tens of trillions of charged cells, a walking power station, so why do you so often feel flat and drained? In this piece, Pooja Bedi explores why energy is about frequency far more than sleep, how your emotional states become your energetic default, and how to consciously raise your vibration from survival into creation.

Let’s start with something a little inconvenient.
You are not tired because you’re low on energy. You are, by any honest measure, a walking power station. You are made of tens of trillions of cells, each one alive with electrical and chemical activity. You are, quite literally, a being of pulsating energy, humming away at this very moment while you sit there convinced you need a nap and possibly a coffee.
The cell biologist Dr Bruce Lipton has gone so far as to suggest, metaphorically or provocatively, that we carry trillions of volts of charge in our bodies. Whether or not you take that figure literally, the underlying truth is not in dispute. You are electric. The Chinese called this life force chi. In India we call it prana, or more precisely, ojas. The West, rather less poetically, calls it life force energy. Every tradition that ever looked closely arrived at the same conclusion. You are not a lump of biology trudging through your Tuesday. You are a current.
So here is the genuinely interesting question. If you are carrying all of that voltage, why do you so often feel like a phone stuck on 4 percent, desperately looking for somewhere to plug in?
The answer is not that you’re low on energy. It’s that your energy is stuck on the wrong setting.
Energy Is Not Just Rest. It’s Frequency.
We’ve been sold a very small idea of what energy is. We think it’s about sleep, caffeine, a green juice and eight hours of REM. Those matter, of course. But they’re the least interesting part of the story.
Because energy isn’t only about how rested you are. It’s about what you’re vibrating at. There is a famous line often attributed to Nikola Tesla: if you want to understand the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration. Whether or not he said it exactly that way, the phrase has endured because it points to something we instinctively understand.
Here’s the part that lands close to home. Your brain has measurable electrical activity. Your heart’s rhythm shows up on an ECG. Your body is undeniably bioelectric. But when I speak of emotional frequency, I’m not pretending that love and resentment can be neatly measured like radio stations. I’m speaking of the felt energetic quality of a state, the way it changes your body, your breath, your posture, your choices, your presence and the way you move through a room.
Think of emotion the way I like to. E-motion. Energy in motion. In the energy language I use in LIMITLESS, fear, resentment and anxiety behave like low, heavy, draining frequencies, the kind that leave you exhausted after a conversation that didn’t even involve any physical effort. Joy, love, gratitude and confidence feel higher, lighter, more expansive, the kind that make you feel like you could take on the day even after four hours of sleep.
You already know this in your body. You’ve walked out of one meeting feeling like someone unplugged you, and out of another buzzing, lit up, more alive than when you went in. Same you. Same amount of sleep. Completely different frequency. Nobody drained your battery. The frequency you were tuned to drained it, or charged it.
Your Body Has a Factory Setting (And It Might Need Changing)
Here’s where it gets personal, and slightly uncomfortable.
Your repeated emotional states quietly become your energetic default. Whatever you feel most often, your system starts to treat as home base. If you spend most of your days in low-grade worry, mild irritation, background anxiety, that low frequency becomes your factory setting, the note you hum at without even noticing. And then you wonder why you feel perpetually flat, why good things don’t seem to stick, why you keep meeting more of the same.
Your body, bless it, learns these patterns long before your mind catches on. It’s efficient like that. It decides, without consulting you, that this is simply who we are now, and it sets the thermostat accordingly.
And this is where it stops being poetic and starts being practical, because here is a sequence I come back to again and again. Your beliefs become your thoughts. Your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions. Your actions become your habits. And all of it together forms your vibration, the frequency you move through the world broadcasting. That vibration then shapes what you notice, how you behave, what you tolerate, who feels familiar, how people experience you, and what feels possible. We tend to call the result destiny. It isn’t destiny. It’s the accumulated frequency of everything you’ve repeatedly thought and felt. Which is either the most confronting or the most liberating thing you’ll read today, depending on your mood, and possibly your current frequency.
Confronting, because it means you’ve been broadcasting on autopilot. Liberating, because a setting can be changed.
How to Actually Raise Your Voltage
So how do you turn the dial up? Not with a green juice and toxic positivity, I promise you.
You start by noticing what you’re tuned to. Simple awareness is the whole beginning. Catch yourself mid-spiral and ask, quite plainly, what am I broadcasting right now? Is this power, or is this just a pattern I’ve been running so long it feels like personality? That question alone begins to loosen the setting, because you cannot change a frequency you don’t know you’re stuck on.
Then you feed the frequency you actually want. What you consume tunes you, and I don’t only mean food. The conversations you have, the feeds you scroll, the company you keep, the stories you tell yourself in the shower, all of it is quietly setting your dial. You would not pour sludge into a Ferrari and expect it to purr. Yet we pour comparison, outrage and doom-scrolling into a powerhouse of tens of trillions of cells and wonder why we feel like sludge. Choose the inputs, and you begin to choose the output.
And you move the energy that’s stuck. Emotion is energy in motion, and when it stops moving, it stagnates. Dance in your kitchen. Walk. Sing badly in the car. Laugh properly, the kind that makes noise. Forgive something you’ve been gripping, because resentment is one of the heaviest, most expensive frequencies you can carry, and putting it down is like taking off a rucksack full of bricks you’d genuinely forgotten you were wearing.
Here is the truth I most want you to keep. You were not designed to dim your voltage, shrink your signal, or apologise for taking up space in the world. You were built to thrive, not merely to survive. All that power isn’t waiting for better circumstances, more sleep, or the perfect Monday to switch on. It’s already on. It always was. You just get to decide, starting now, what you do with the current.
So the next time you catch yourself sighing that you’re low on energy, pause and reconsider. You are not low on energy. You are a power station briefly tuned to the wrong station. And the beautiful thing about a dial is that it turns.
Learning to recognise your energetic default and consciously raise your frequency, from survival energy into creation energy, is the whole heart of the energy work in LIMITLESS.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Raising your vibration means consciously shifting out of low, heavy emotional states like fear, resentment and anxiety, and into higher, more expansive ones like gratitude, love and confidence. The idea rests on a simple observation: emotions carry energy, and that energy influences how you feel, how you show up and how you experience your day. Raising your frequency isn’t about forcing false positivity or pretending difficult feelings away. It’s about becoming aware of your emotional default and gradually, deliberately, tuning yourself toward states that energise rather than deplete you.
Because energy is about far more than rest. You can sleep eight hours and still feel flat if your emotional state is stuck in worry, resentment or low-grade anxiety, because those states are genuinely draining regardless of how rested you are. Equally, you can run on very little sleep and feel electric when you’re in a state of joy, purpose or love. And if exhaustion persists despite rest, food, hydration and emotional care, please check the body too. A blood test has never been the enemy of enlightenment. Persistent fatigue can have medical roots worth ruling out.
You can absolutely change it, and the belief that it’s fixed is part of what keeps people stuck. Your repeated emotional states become your energetic default over time, which means your current baseline isn’t your permanent nature, it’s a pattern you’ve practised. Because it was learned, it can be shifted through awareness, through the inputs you choose, and through consciously moving stuck energy with things like movement, forgiveness and joy. It doesn’t happen overnight, and it isn’t about being relentlessly upbeat. It’s about slowly retuning a dial you didn’t realise you had your hand on.
Parts of the conversation are scientific, and parts are spiritual language for lived experience. It’s well established that the brain produces measurable electrical activity and brain waves, and that the heart generates a measurable electrical field. From there, the idea that emotional states carry a felt energy that influences your life is more of a wisdom framework than a laboratory law. I share it as a powerful lens for self-awareness and personal growth, not as hard physics. Held that way, it’s genuinely useful, whether or not every part of it can be measured on a machine.
Start by noticing whose company consistently leaves you drained versus energised, because that awareness is the first layer of protection. You absorb less when your own state is strong and steady, so the real work is less about blocking others and more about anchoring yourself, through the inputs you choose, the boundaries you hold and the emotional states you practise. It also helps to consciously reset after draining encounters, through movement, breath, time in nature, or simply a few minutes of deliberate calm. You are far less porous to other people’s heaviness when you are grounded in your own energy.
